Forty-Acre Wines, located in Woodend, Victoria, in the shadow of Mount Macedon, is blessed by native birds, kangaroos and scenic views. The cool climate of the Macedon Ranges produces some of the best cool climate wines in Australia, equaling those of New Zealand and Burgundy, France.
Forty-Acre Wines' simple philosophy is to make quality handcrafted wines with minimal intervention. This is achieved by only using the best quality grapes available from the region.
Rod Drysdale – Wine Maker
Rod's discovery of wine started in the late 80s, after studying and traveling in southern France where wine was a way of life. French restaurants are proud of the house wine they offer patrons, and they are passionate about their wine regions. On returning to Australia, Rod was disappointed with the quality of wine on offer, and sought to find and relive his French experience in Australia.
After completing wine studies at BRIT under the respected winemaker Mal Stewart, Rod became a part-time apprentice at Big Shed Wines in central Victoria, under the tutelage of Dr Ken Jones, renowned Professor of Biotechnology & Genetics, previously from Edinburgh University.
Having established Forty-Acre Wines, Rod now makes quality handcrafted wine in his own right, using grapes sourced mainly from the Macedon Ranges.
