2016 Macedon Ranges Wine exhibition results
The Macedon Ranges Wine Exhibition for 2016 was held on Monday 3rd of October.
Over 130 wines were entered in this year’s Exhibition with all wines made from at least 85% Macedon Ranges grapes.
This year’s judges were David Bicknell (Oakridge Wines, Yarra Valley), Tom Hogan (Harry and Frankie) and Michael MacNamara (Prince Wine Store).

2016 Wine Exhibition Trophy Winners:
- Best Sparkling Wine: The Kilchurn Sparkling Wine Specialists Trophy: Cope Williams NV Macedon - Late disgorged
- Best White Variety or Blend other than Chardonnay: The Bendigo Bank Trophy (Lancefield & Romsey Community Bank branches): Zig Zag Road 2015 Riesling
- Best Chardonnay: The Bendigo Bank Trophy (Lancefield & Romsey Community Bank branches): Lord Malmsbury 2015 Chardonnay
- Best Pinot Noir: The Classic Oak Products Trophy: Hanging Rock The Jim Jim 2014 Pinot Noir
- Best Red Variety or Blend other than Pinot Noir & Shiraz: The Longfellows Insurance Brokers Trophy: Kyneton Ridge Estate 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon
- Best Wine of the Exhibition (judges choice): The Laurie Williams Trophy: Hanging Rock The Jim Jim 2014 Pinot Noir
- Best Winery of the Exhibition: (judged by the overall average score from each winery that submits at least 3 wines for judging)
- The Gordon Knight Trophy: Hanging Rock Winery
The Macedon Ranges Wine Exhibition presentation dinner was held at the Macedon Ranges Wine Room on Friday 7th October. It included six courses with the top wine to match. The wines served were the top three wines from each class of the exhibition. Master of Ceremonies was John Ellis, one of the statesmen of the Macedon Ranges wine region.
The “People’s Choice Best Wine of the Exhibition”, voted by the exhibition guests was decided on completion of the final course. Each guest selected one “standout wine” for the night. Votes were collected and the Winner of the Peoples’ Choice Trophy was Lord Malmsbury 2015 Chardonnay. This People’s choice trophy was sponsored by Plumm Wine Glasses.
