Press release: 2007 Pegeric Pinot Noir wins back-to-back gold
Date: 7 November, 2013
2007 PEGERIC Pinot Noir has won Gold for the second consecutive year in the Peking Duck Wine and Food pairing category at the 2013 Cathay Pacific International Wine and Spirit Competition, announced in Hong Kong on Thursday November 7th.
This year there were only 5 Gold medals awarded worldwide in the Peking Duck category. In 2012, only a single Gold medal was awarded in the Peking Duck category, which was also won by PEGERIC Pinot Noir.
In the 2013 competition, the 2007 PEGERIC also won 3 Silver and 2 Bronze medals.
The 2010 PEGERIC Pinot Noir won Gold in the Braised Abalone Food pairing category in its first entry in competition, and one of only 2 Gold medals awarded worldwide. The 2010 also won 4 Silver and 1 Bronze medal in various categories at this prestigious international show.
Of the 5 wines entered by Pegeric in the Competition, all won multiple Silver medals or better, in the following Food and Wine pairing categories:
Established in 1987, PEGERIC is one of Australia’s smallest wine producers.
Always at the forefront of innovation, it remains one of Australia’s first vineyards of the modern era to have close planted, dry grown (unirrigated), mulched vines, ahead of its time in both quality measures and reduced environmental impact.
Experimentation is not only confined to the vineyard, with lessons learnt from the vineyards of France, Spain and Portugal. The 2005 PEGERIC has benefited from extended time in Seguin Moreau oak barriques, and won 3 Silver and 3 Bronze medals.
In total, Pegeric won 2 Gold, 13 Silver and 10 Bronze medals - an effort that viticulturist & owner Chris Cormack was especially proud of, given that only 5 wines were entered - a 100% success rate for medals from this Macedon micro-producer, and all achieved a silver medal or better!
Both 2007 and 2010 were amongst the runners up in 3 Trophy categories; Braised Abalone, Chicken Tikka and Peking Duck.
The Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Wine and Spirit Competition is created specifically for the Asian market and is judged by Asia’s most esteemed wine judges from China, Singapore, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and India. Other judges include Debra Meiburg MW and Christie’s wine expert, Simon Tam.
The show is run in partnership with the London based International Wine and Spirit Competition, which has been running for 40 years and is the world’s premier platform for recognizing quality in the industry.
Australia’s Vanya Cullen was appointed as this year’s guest International Wine Judge.
