Established in 1985 by Alan and Nelly Cooper, the vineyard is positioned in a natural amphitheatre, at an altitude of 610 metres above sea level. The sunny warmer northern slopes of the Great Dividing Range and the mineraly granitic sandy soil play a major part in the success of the vines.
We are producers of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah and the first commercial production of Lagrein in Australia and are committed to quality - the vines are hand- picked, hand pruned and hand tended and the wines are made with passion and crafted with care.
Cobaw Ridge wines are of individual character and style. All are 100% estate grown, made and bottled, and show full flavours which richly reflect this special vineyard site. Certified Organic 2009 / Biodynamic 2011:NASAA.
We are approximately an hour's drive from Melbourne CBD via the Calder freeway and just 15 minutes east of Kyneton, Victoria, Australia
A small, family-owned Macedon Ranges producer, we have also been accepted into the international biodynamic winemaking group, Renaissance des Appellations. Return To Terroir

Other wine producers who eke out wines of single sites, great interest, individual personality and a kind of quirk of their regions, yet purity too. Striking wine in a small line-up of Australian chardonnay ....

...Their vineyard work is biodynamic (certified since 2011). The wines are pretty serious, and probably deserve more recognition than they get. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah all excel, made in a natural way with the sole addition being that of sulfur dioxide. Syrah is particularly impressive, including the sans soufre botting from 2014. A speciality here is Lagrein, a northern Italian mountain variety that seems to do quite well in Macedon ...

...The result was a fascinating day spent tasting 83 new-wave Australian wines, a selection of wines headed Artisan Tasting by Wine Australia in their offices in Sydney.” The purpose of the tasting was to showcase the emerging diversity of the "wild ones." Wines on the conventional edge... minimum intervention in both the vineyard and winery. Cobaw Ridge was the sole winery representing the Macedon Ranges.
