Macedon Ranges Wine Exhibition 2014

The Macedon Ranges Wine Exhibition dinner held on 3rd October, 2014 at The Royal George in Kyneton was attended by 100 guests. The Master of Ceremonies MC was John Ellis of Hanging Rock Winery.

The Laurie Williams Trophy for
Best Wine of the Exhibition
was awarded to Cope Williams NV Pinot Chardonnay
This Macedon was also awarded the Bendigo Bank Trophy for
“Best Sparkling Wine.”

The Macedon Ranges Freight Trophy for
“Best White variety or Blend other than Chardonnay”
was won by Hesket Estate 2014 Riesling.

The Kyneton Toyota Trophy for “Best Chardonnay” was won by Shadowfax - Midhill 2013 Chardonnay.

The Seguin Moreau Trophy for “Best Pinot Noir” was won by
Curly Flat’s Williams Crossing 2012 Pinot Noir.

For “Best Red Variety or Blend other than Pinot noir or Shiraz”,
the Longfellows Insurance Brokers Trophy was not awarded.
A Bronze medal was awarded to the
Rowanston on The Track Merlot 2012.

For the “Best Shiraz” the Vinvicta Products Trophy was not awarded. A Silver medal was awarded to the
Rowanston on The Track Barrel Select 2009 Shiraz

For “people’s Choice” The Banks Wine Store Trophy was won by Shadowfax-Midhill Chardonnay 2013

120 wine entries were judged this year, a similar number to last year.

Judges were:

  • Rob Geddes (Wine Writer and Author of: The Golden Book),
  • Lak Quach (Sommelier, current Dux of Len Evans Tutorial),
  • Chief Steward: Robert Ellis (Hanging Rock Winery)
  • Chief Associate Judge: Matt Harrop (Shadowfax Winery)
  • Event organiser: Rob Ellis of Hanging Rock Winery
